Another employee posted a threat to shoot up our office.
They cited mental health struggles being ignored by HR, and wishing to kill their teammates. They claimed to actively possess a firearm and asked us not to come into the office tomorrow.
At first I was scared and appalled, but I see things differently through my experience with severe mental illness. I see somebody who feels scared and trapped. Someone who’s hurting really badly with no way to stop the pain, lashing out in whatever way they can.
If the person who wrote the threat is reading this: I’m glad you didn’t hurt anyone. I know Amazon feels like everything when you’re in it, but there is a whole world outside of Amazon full of joy and opportunity. Former employees who will commiserate with you. Hurting and threatening people just lends credibility to your abusers.
According to Blind, they may have traced the threat back to my old building, which made this threat eerily real to me. This was more than just an anonymous troll, someone almost killed my friends and co-workers.
I hope the person who posted those threats came to realize there’s no shame in just quitting.
