Don’t Kill Yourself for a Job That Would Replace You

The door desk that this was written on is a famous staple of Amazon offices: https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/workplace/how-a-door-became-a-desk-and-a-symbol-of-amazon

“Don’t kill yourself for a job that would replace you within a week if you dropped dead. Take care of yourself.”

Someone wrote that in marker on a desk at Amazon. It was posted anonymously to Blind.
I don’t know who wrote it or who it was meant for. Either way, I appreciated it, especially as someone who struggled with suicidal ideation after workplace abuse.

But it also left me wondering: How do you actually take care of yourself?

What do you do when none of the approved paths seem to work? I was already in talk therapy. How do you come out of isolation and not ‘kill yourself’?

Another person at Amazon needed to hear this message.

I wish it could have reached him before he jumped from the building.
